Beginning July 16, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline will be reachable with a 3-digit dial number: 988.
The current Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis, even after 988 is launched nationally, but this 3-digit number aims to increase ease of access.
